INTERACTIVE SESSION BETWEEN THE BHARAT SCOUTS AND GUIDES & SCOUTS OF ISRAEL
On the request of the Embassy of Israel, New Delhi an interactive session between
the Bharat Scouts and Guides & Scouts of Israel was organised at the Conference
hall of the National Headquarters, New Delhi on 11th May 2019.
12 (Twelve) Scouts along with Scout Leaders and official of Embassy of Israel, New
Delhi and about 40 Scouts, Guides, Rovers, Rangers, adult leaders from the local
Units of Delhi, K.V.S. Northern Railway & Uttar Pradesh and Professionals of NHQ
joined the programme.
The session started with Scout/Guide Prayer followed by self-introduction by all.
BSG at a glance, its programmes and activities, camping, community development programmes
etc. were highlighted through Power Point Presentation. Similarly, Scouts of Israel
also highlighted their programmes and activities.
Participating Scouts, Guides, Rovers & Rangers from both the countries shared their
views with one another.
Children from D.A.V. Public School, MausamVihar, Delhi presented a beautiful Patriotic
Song & Dance which was highly appreciated by one and all who were present in the
session.
Participants of both the countries exchanged gift with one another as a bond of
friendship and with a message to foster deeper relationship amongst the young people.
Scouts of Israel also visited the Scout Shop at the National Headquarters.
The lively interactive session between both the National Scout Organisation (NSO)
ended by singing National Anthem of both the countries followed by group photographs.
ADULTS-IN-SCOUTING WORKSHOP, HONG KONG
Asia pacific region of the world organization of scout movement recently organized
the Adults in Scouting Workshop at HONG KONG, BP INTERNATIONAL HOUSE, from 21st
to 24th April 2019, for the enhancement of the leaders from various National Scout
Organizations and provide them with absolute knowledge about the roles of adult
leaders in scouting.
Mr. Kumar Ritesh Agarwal (Young Adult Member) and Dr. Cyrus Wadia (Member) being
members of the regional ADULTS IN SCOUTING sub-committee of APR attended as delegates
from the Bharat Scouts and Guides, India and acted as team facilitators. All the
48 participants were divided into 5 groups.
The event also included the 100 years of wood badge celebrations of the Asia Pacific
Region held in Taitam Scout Centre of Hongkong Scout Association.
It was indeed an amazing event as it included the discussion on topics such as WOSM
consultants, Adults in Scouting, Better World Framework, Wood Badge Framework, Training
the Trainers and such other topics which were dealt by Resource personalities of
world scouting.
It was addressed by the members of Regional Scout Committee.
After the workshop Mr. Rand Dr. Wadia also attended the sub-committee meeting of
the Asia sub-committee on 25th April 2019.
Working with young people and adult leaders was the hallmark of the workshop. It
was a wonderful moment spent during the event learning many new things which will
lead to betterment of scouting in future.
National Event
Skill Development Training Programme With the initiatives of our Hon’ble Chief National
Commissioner Dr.K.K.Khandelwal, IAS (Retd.) the Bharat Scouts and Guides partnership
with M/S AITMC Venture Pvt. Ltd., Gurugram and M/S Pasta Lifestyle Solution Pvt.
Ltd., New Delhi started to contribute in Skill Development Mission of India from
March, 2019 and established 7 Centres in various states in India under Prime Minister
Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY-2.0). Several courses under different sector has been
started in seven Centres. Mainly we focused on IT, Logistic, Retail, Automotive
and Power sector according to high demand of skilled and semi-skilled manpower.
The experts from different fields are deputed to run the centres by partner organisations.
We have created & running 7 centres in Dahod (Gujrat), Mewat (Haryana), Rajgarh
(M.P.), Shahdara (Delhi), Kandhamal (Orissa), Kargil (J&K) and Baramulla (J&K).
Total target to train 1920 Scouts and non Scouts candidates and 60 Batches out of
64 uploaded on SDMS portal of NSDC.
The details of courses and batches are as follows:
- Dahod (Gujrat) centre has 3 Courses having target of 360 candidates.

The State Associations of Gujarat, Delhi, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Jammu
& Kashmir states are also drafting plans for General Information Course for the
trainees of PMKVY organised by Bharat Scouts and Guides to promote future Unit Leaders
of the organisation among the trainees.
National Training Centre, Pachmarhi
Course for Leader Trainers Scout Wing
The Course for Leader Trainers (Scout Wing) was conducted at National Training Centre
Pachmarhi from 23rd to 29th April, 2019 in which 37 participants from Chhattisgarh,
Haryana, Karnataka, Kerala, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, Madhya Pradesh, Nagaland,
Odisha, Rajasthan, Southern Railway, Tamilnadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh and West
Bengal state associations participated.
The subjects like - Course Objectives, Fundamentals, Six areas of Training, Role,
Functions and Skills of a Trainer, Management of Learning Experiences, Planning
and Drawing a Sequential Order related to Training Courses, Youth Programme, Leadership
Competencies, Needs and Aspirations of Young People, Leadership Styles, Preparation
of HWB Course Programme, Objective Evaluations, Principles of Management, Transfer
of Training, Course Administration and Report, Motivation, Human Relations, Communications,
National Adult Resource Policies, Thinking Techniques and Decision Taking etc. were
dealt during the course.
Besides the above, practical activities like Lesson Demonstration on the topics
of Himalaya Wood Badge Course, Presentation of Personal Project, Individual Assignments
& Group Assignment, How to Conduct a HWB Course, Assessment of Self Learning Modules,
Preparation of Course Objectives by participants were conducted. Every day lots
of assignments were given to all the participants. Emphasis was given on managerial
skills. Participants were given Personal Project with proper guidelines. Every day
morning B. P. Six, Drill and March-past, morning inspection and Flag Procedure were
conducted. In order to assess the individual capacity of a participant, various
individual assignments were given to them.
All the participants completed all the activities, tests, assignments and preparation
of lesson plans etc. Assessment of participants was also completed in all respects.
The participants and staff of the course conducted the Grand Campfire on 28th April,
2019.
The course ended on 29th April 2019 with All Faiths Prayer in the morning. Shri
M.S. Qureshi, Joint Director, Leader Training (S) was the Leader of the Course.
Pre-ALT (G) Course
Pre-ALT (G) Course was conducted at National Training Centre, Pachmarhi from 23rd
to 27th April, 2019 in which 71 participants from Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh,
Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Kerala, KVS,
Maharashtra, Nagaland, NVS, N.F.Railway, N.W.Railway, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana,
Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and West Bengal actively participated. All were accommodated
under canvas and central mess was organized.
Participants were divided into Group A and Group B. Ms. M. N. Machamma, Dy. Director
(Guides) Ldr. Trg. and Ms. A.Beema Shariff, LT(G) were the Leaders of Courses respectively.
Subjects such as Fundamentals, Fourteen Programme Ideals, Teaching Methods and Learning
Process, Helping the Course Leader, How Adults Learn, Counselling, Unit Meeting
on Courses, Free Being Me, Golden Arrow / PMSC / UPRAC, Roll Call Drill, Micro Teaching
as per SOT (GW) were conducted.
Skills upto Tritiya Sopan, Flag Procedure, Duty Change were tested during outdoor
activities. Quiz and Written test too were organized. Apart from this B.P.Six Exercise,
Prayer and Flag were the regular activities. A session on Messenger of Peace was
dealt. Participants were motivated for the contribution for NHQ Magazine as well
as BSG Welfare Fund.
On the last day, All Faiths Prayer Meeting was conducted followed by regular Day
to Day Programme. After the open session, by lowering the flag, the course came
to an end. Thanks to the State Associations for deputing candidates to the course.
Re-orientation Course of Trainers
The Re-orientation Course of Trainers was conducted at National Training Centre,
Pachmarhi from 6th to 10th May, 2019 in which 18 participants from Chhattisgarh,
East Central Railway, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra,
Rajasthan, South Central Railway and Uttar Pradesh state associations respectively
participated.
Topics like Fundamentals of Bharat Scouts & Guides, Recent changes in Scheme of
Training (Scout Wing), Leadership Competencies, Value Based Scouting, Six Areas
of Training, Partnership works in Qualitative and Quantitative aspects, Formal and
Informal Training, Formulation of Course Objectives, World Adult Resource Policy,
Personal Support, Self Training, Principles of Management, Evaluation, Training
Administration, Principles of Organization & Levels of Organization, Community Development
& National Level Trends, Youth Programme related to Adult Leader Training etc were
discussed. How to Read Training Study and new procedure for sending Training Study
to NTC for registration was explained briefly. Demonstration on B.P.Six exercises
and inspection procedure was given by Leader of the Course. Opportunities were given
to every individual to inspect tent and layout by following NTC procedure.
Practical Training was given on Flag Procedure & Duty Change. Simple drill of turn
out with commands have been explained. Detailed checking of Uniform was done in
the Flag Ceremony. New changes in uniform were explained. Uniform was checked Patrol-wise
and defects of uniform were pointed out and got corrected by individuals. More emphasis
was given on name plate, shoulder curved badge, BSG stripe and rank badge etc. Long
discussion took place on recent changes on Scheme of Training. More emphasis was
given to deliver quality training for Unit Leaders. Also follow scheme of Training
and to conduct courses with the help of National Training Handbook.
On 9th May 2019 evening, Grand Campfire was organized at NAI. Also participants
join the celebration of 26th Anniversary of National Adventure Institute.
On 10th May, 2019 morning All Faiths Prayer meeting was conducted and the course
came to an end by lowering the Flag and singing of National Anthem. Shri M. S. Qureshi,
Jt. Director, National Training Centre was the Leader of the Course.
NATIONAL YOUTH COMPLEX, GADPURI
22nd National Youth Adventure Programme from 22nd to 26th April, 2019
56 participants from Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Eastern Railway and
Uttar Pradesh participated.
The programme covered Trekking, Obstacles / Adventure Bases Crossing, Archery, Rifle
Shooting, Horse Riding, Fun Activities, Camp Fire and Artificial Rock Climbing and
Repelling. Participants visited Delhi Mathura and Agara for expeditions (Akshardham
Temple, Lotus Temple, Qutub Minar, Red Fort, India Gate, Krishna Janmbhumi, Gokul,
Vrindavan, Taj Mahal etc.) and enjoyed a lot.
Free Being Me activity was conducted during the programme by Mr. Dhanraj Saini.
On 23rd April, 2019 Mr. Santosh Kumar Mall, IAS & Commissioner, KVS, President &
State Chief Commissioner, BSG, KVS along with Mr. S. S. Zaidi, State Organising
Commissioner (S), BSG, KVS visited the National Youth complex, Gadpuri, Palwal,
Haryana. Mr. Raj Kumar Kaushik, Jt. Director, BSG was also present on the occasion.
While addressing the participants of 22nd NYAP he appreciated the initiative taken
by our Chief National Commissioner Dr. K. K. Khandelwal for promoting the Adventure
Institute in the northern belt. He also assured to send the maximum number of participants
to National Youth Complex.
The Leader of the programme was Mr. Siddharth Mohanty, Asst. Director, NYC. He was
duly assisted by Mr. Harish Tanwar, Jr. Er. Cum Estate Manager, Mr. Subhas Chandra
Behra, WQM, Mr. Dhanraj Saini, OSJI, NYC, Mr. Shubhanshu Kumar Kori, OS, NYC, Mr.
Shishirkumar Janardhanrao Kaware, Maharashtra and Mr. Sandip Ananda Patil, Maharashtra
along with the NYC staff.
The camp ended with National Anthem on 26th April, 2019.
23rd National Youth Adventure Programme from 29th April, 2019 to 03rd May, 2019
23 participants from Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh participated
in this event.
The programme covered activities like Trekking, Obstacles/Adventure Bases Crossing,
Archery, Rifle and Pistol Shooting, Horse Riding, Water Activities, Fun Activities,
Camp Fire, Artificial Rock Climbing and Repelling. Participants also visited Delhi
for expedition (Akshardham Temple, Lotus Temple, Red Fort, India Gate, etc.) and
enjoyed a lot.
The participants visited National Headquarters during the Delhi expedition. Mr.
R. Krishnaswamy, Director, BSG and other NHQ Officials welcomed them.
The Leader of the programme was Mr. Siddharth Mohanty, Asst. Director, NYC. He was
well assisted by Mr. Dhanraj Saini, OSJI, NYC, Mr. Shubhanshu Kumar Kori, OS, NYC
and invited staff members.
Free Being Me activity was conducted during the programme by Mr. Shubhanshu Kumar
Kori, Office Secretary, NYC.
The camp ended with National Anthem on 03rd May, 2019.
National Youth Adventure Programme from 03rd to 05th May, 2019
47 participants from Kalaniketan Sr. Src. Vidyalaya, Delhi participated.
The programme covered Obstacles Adventure Bases Crossing, Archery, Rifle Shooting,
Fun Activities, Camp Fire, Artificial Rock Climbing and Repelling in three days.
They have also visited Water Park on 05th May, 2019.
The Leader of the programme was Mr. Siddharth Mohanty, Asst. Director, NYC who was
duly assisted by Mr. Dhanraj Saini, OSJI, NYC, Mr. Shubhanshu Kumar Kori, OS, NYC
and invited staff.
The camp ended with National Anthem on 05th May, 2019.
April - 2019
International Event
Bangladesh Motorbike Rally
West Bengal State, Bharat Scouts & Guides organized a Motorbike Rally as part of
the celebration of Centenary Year of Rovering. A team of 12 Adult Leaders including
03 Guiders started their journey on 7th March, 2019 from the State Training Centre,
Ganganagar, Kolkata towards Mouchak to participate in the 10th Bangladesh & 3rd
SAANSO Scout Jamboree held from 8th to 14th March, 2019.
The team reached Petrapole, 70 KM away from Ganganagar, the border of Bangladesh
via Barasat, Habra, Bongaon, through Jessore Road at about 4p.m. The contingent
faced lot of difficulties to complete all the formalities for crossing the Border
on Motorbikes. But the timely Intervention by Shri Pallab Basu, State Secretary
helped the contingent to get the custom clearance.
The team reached Mouchak, the Training Centre of Bangladesh Scouts Association on
8th March, 2019 at 10a.m. and was warmly welcomed by Kaji Najmul Haque, Jamboree
Deputy Chief & National Commissioner (Extension Scouting), Jenab Mohammad Rafiqul
Islam and Sri Arup Sarkar, Assistant Director, BS&G and Contingent Leader of the
Indian Team. From Jessore they covered a distance of 270 K.M. via Magura, Faridpur,
Goalandapur Ferry Ghat, Manikganj, and finally reached a Mouchak, Gajipur. Print
and Electronic Media of Bangladesh gave wide coverage of our participation in the
Jamboree. The contingent was also felicitated by the Indian Team led by Sri Arup
Sarkar, Assistant Director, BS&G, India. More than 12,000 Scouts, Guides and Leaders
from Bangladesh, SAARC Countries took part in this prestigious Jamboree. It was
a privilege for the team to meet Dr. K.K. Khandelwal, I.A.S. (Retd.) and Chief National
Commissioner and Shri M.A. Khalid, National Commissioner (S) who blessed the team.
The Jamboree was inaugurated by Shri Abdul Hamid, H.E. President of Bangladesh on
10th March.
During the Jamboree days, the team witnessed several colourful programmes performed
by the participants including Campfire, Group Dance, Adventure Activities etc.
Performance Review Conference and Skill Development Training Course
Annual performance review is a key component of employee development. The performance review is intended to be a fair and balanced assessment of an employee’s performance. The objective of the annual review is to provide all regular university staff and their supervisors an opportunity to:
- • Discuss job performance.
- • Set goals for professional development.
- • Establish objectives for contributing to the department’s mission.
- • Discuss expectations and accomplishments.
After a long gap, all the professionals of BSG reported at the National Headquarters, New Delhi on 24th March, 2019. The Performance Review Conference started with the opening remarks of the Director, BSG on 25th March, 2019. All the professionals submitted their performance report to the Joint Director cum Administrative Officer.
Mr. Amar B. Chettri, DD (BP), informed all professionals about the updates of WSJ, USA and Mr. Saratharaj, ASSO, NHQ has taken input session about Website, BSG India (which is under progress) and Online Registration System of BSG.
Personal difficulties were discussed in one to one meeting with Joint Director cum Administrative Officer in the evening.
On the second day, review team started reviewing under the leadership of Shri M.S. Turan for the first time in BSG and which may be an eye opener for us for further personal development of each one. During the review Shri M.S. Turan tried to motivate each and every one to focus on their work achievements. He also briefed that a performance appraisal or performance evaluation is a formal assessment in which managers evaluate an employee’s work, identify strengths and weaknesses, offer feedback and set goals for future task. When done right, performance reviews can help employees understand if they’re doing well, how they can improve, how their work aligns with larger goals, and what is expected of them in their given role.
Review started with the presentation of Dy. Director Scout (P) followed by Southern Region officials. It was an opportunity to present themselves as a team and individuals in front of the Review Team starting from ROC to Jt. Directors. Review continued on the third day also with presentations, written test and one to one interview.
All the professionals were busy on the fourth day with the preparation of Programme and Training Committee and other meetings to be held at NHQ on 30th and 31st March, 2019. Each morning of the conference started with the B.P. Six, Aerobics etc. and complete with the evening sessions covering different topics every day. The Performance Review came to an end by assigning various duties in the meetings to be held at NHQ on 30th & 31st March 2019, which was again a good opportunity for professionals to evaluate themselves and to perform in a better way.
Second phase of the Performance Review started on 1st April 2019 with Skill Development Training. During the Training course the participants practiced different skills apart from Scouting and prepared SOP (Standard Operating Procedures) for different activities such as Testing Camps, Events, Day-to-Day Administration and also prepared Action Plan for the Year 2019-20 in the light of job Profiles, Vision 2024 and target assigned by NHQ and presented the same in the house.
The conference concluded with All Faith Prayer Meeting and all the professionals had gone through testing process of basic skills of Scouting .
Topics such as Protocol and Ethics, Different Awards like Rashtrapati Award, Upa-Rashtrapati Award, Prime Minister Shield, Lakshmi Mazumdar Award, and National Commissioner Shield etc. were discussed.
National Training Centre, Pachmarhi
Pre-ALT Course (Scout Wing)
Pre-ALT Course (Scout Wing) was conducted at National Training Centre, Pachmarhi from 08th to 12th April, 2019 in which 41 participants from Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Eastern Railway, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Kerala, Maharashtra, Nagaland, Rajasthan, S.E. Railway, S.W. Railway, Tamilnadu and West Bengal state association actively participated.
Subjects such as - Fundamentals, Course Objectives, 14 Programme Ideals, Counseling of Courses, Campfire on Courses, Helping the Course Leader, OPTRA, How Adults Learn, Unit Meeting on Courses and Assignments, Training and Testing, Micro Teaching, How to Make Training More Clear, Leadership and Qualities, Helping the Course Leader, World Adult Resource Policy etc were discussed. The importance was given on practical subject like Flag Procedure, Morning Inspection, Duty Change, Knotting, Lashing, First Aid, Mapping, Simple Drill, Troop Meeting, Micro Teaching etc.
The aim was to test the skills upto Tritiya Sopan level before recommending them for ALT Course. Demonstration of B. P. Six was given and clear all the doubts of participants was also given more importance. Micro Teaching was another challenge for participants.
The trainees were busy with various indoor and outdoor learning activities related to the development of qualities and skills of a trainer. Learning opportunities were created for the trainees through Formal sessions and Demonstration, Group Discussion, Personal and Group Assignment, Self study of handouts and provided personal support by Counselors. A session on MoP was taken by Shri Sunil Patel, Computer Operator.
The All Faiths Prayer meeting was conducted on 12th April, 2019. Shri M.S. Qureshi, Joint Director (S) NTC, Pachmarhi was the Leader of the Course.
Basic Course for Commissioners
The Basic Course for Commissioners was conducted at the National Training Centre, Pachmarhi from 12th to 16th March, 2019 in which 10 participants from both Scout and Guide wings, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha and Uttar Pradesh State Associations of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan attended.
Subjects like Responsibilities of a Commissioner, History of the Movement, Responsibilities of Leadership, Commissioner as Leader of the Team, What is Scouting, Patrol System, Different Sections & Branches of the Movement, Advancement of Programme of Boy/Girl, Scheme of Adult Leader Training, Public Relations, Marketing and Promotion of Scouting and Guiding, Visit to Units, Management Game, Vision 2024, World Adult Resource Management Policy were dealt.
Importance was given for practical areas like Flag Procedure, Morning Inspection, Duty Change etc. which were conducted every day. The Management Game was the most interesting subject for the Commissioners and they enjoyed it very much. During the course, Principal K.V. Pachmarhi visited the course.
On 15th March, 2019 the Grand Camp Fire was organised. Shri Sunil Patel, HWB (R) took a session on ‘Messenger of Peace’.
On the morning of 16th March, 2019 All Faith Prayer meeting was conducted followed by lectures on Rallies & Gatherings, Planning & Back Dating, Job Profiles of DOC, DTC, District Secretary & District Commissioner. The course came to an end by lowering the Flag and singing of the National Anthem. Shri M.S. Qureshi, Joint Director (S) National Training Centre, Pachmarhi was the Leader of the Course.
National Youth Complex, Gadpuri
21st National Youth Adventure Programme
The Bharat Scouts and Guides National Youth Adventure Institute has been organized 21st National Youth Adventure Programme at National Youth Complex, Gadpuri, Palwal, Haryana from 08th to 12 April, 2019. 38 participants (Students and Teachers) from Eastern Railway, N.F. Railway, S.E. Railway, Uttarakhand and E.C. Railway participated in this programme.
Programmes like Trekking, Obstacles / Adventure Bases Crossing, Archery, Rifle Shooting, Horse Riding, Fun Activities, Camp Fire and Artificial Rock Climbing and Repelling were conducted. Participants also visited Delhi for expeditions to Akshardham Temple, Lotus Temple, Qutub Minar, Red Fort and India Gate and enjoyed a lot.
Free Being Me activity was conducted to all the participants during the programme by Mr. Shubhanshu Kumar Kori. All the participants enjoyed well.
Mr. Ramesh Sharma from Gyan Jyoti Financial Education and Lone Consultation Trust gave general awareness knowledge about the Accounting and Savings to the participants.
Mr. D.K. Mehta, Principal, JNV, Gadpuri was present at the camp fire as Chief Guest along with his family on 11-04-2018 and blessed the participants.
The Leader of the programme was Mr. Siddharth Mohanty, Asst. Director, NYC. He was duly assisted by Mr. Harish Tanwar, Jr. Er. Cum Estate Manager, Mr. Subhas Chandra Behra, WQM, Mr. Dhanraj Saini, NYC, Mr. Shubhanshu Kumar Kori, OS, NYC, along with the NYC staff members.
The camp was ended with National Anthem on 12th April, 2019.
20th National Youth Adventure Programme
The Bharat Scouts and Guides National Youth Adventure Institute organized the 20th National Youth Adventure Programme at National Youth Complex, Gadpuri, Palwal, Haryana from 25th March, 2019 to 29th March, 2019. Total 04 participants from Uttar Pradesh participated in this event.
The programme included Trekking, Obstacles/Adventure Bases Crossing, Archery, Rifle Shooting, Horse Riding, Fun Activities, Camp Fire and Artificial Rock Climbing and Repelling. The participants also visited Mathura for expeditions (Shree Krishna Janm Bhumi, Gokul, Reti Raman, Vrindavan, Durga Mandir, Prem Mandir, Banke Bihari Mandir etc.) and enjoyed a lot. During the expedition they brought two man tents, equipments and utensils with them and stayed the night in the tents in the Divisional Training Centre, Northern Railway, Mathura.
Mr. Jitendra Shelke of the Indian Army was the chief guest of the expedition and the Grand Camp Fire. The Leader of the programme was Mr. Shubhanshu Kumar Kori, OS, NYC, duly assisted by Mr. Subash C. Behera, WQM, NYC, Mr. M. U. Gund, Cook along with the NYC and invited staff members.
Free Being Me activity was conducted during the programme by Mr. Shubhanshu Kumar Kori for the participants. All the participants enjoyed a lot.
On 29th March, 2019 the camp ended with the singing of the National Anthem.
